This delicious recipe is one of Heidi’s all-time faves that her Grandma has passed down through the family, everyone loves this little gem of a dish. It has a great balance between sweet and sour and taste even better the next day.


For the meatballs, It includes:

  • 500g Mince
  • 1 Onion (finely diced)
  • 1 Clove of Garlic (crushed)
  • 1 Egg

The sauce contains:

  • 2 Carrots (grated)
  • 3 Celery stalks (chopped)
  • 1 Tin of Pineapple with the juice, or Heidi prefers, fresh cut-up pineapple (cut into triangles)
  • 1 Onion (finely diced)
  • 1 Clove of Garlic (crushed)
  • 2 Tbsp. of Brown Sugar, Heidi prefers Coconut Sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. Vinegar
  • 2 Tbsp. Gluten-Free Cornflour


  1. Add all ingredients for meatballs in a large bowl, mix together and roll into golf ball-sized or smaller mini meatballs.
  2. Fry the meatballs in a large pan until almost cooked.
  3. Add all ingredients for the sauce once the meatballs are fried nicely.
  4. Allow to simmer for a further 10 minutes or until meatballs are cooked.

This Meatball Manoola recipe can be served with egg noodles, rice or quinoa.
