Pregnancy & Post Natal Care

Pregnancy

Many women are faced with a variety of ailments that can arise during pregnancy and post pregnancy. At AcuHealth we understand that every pregnancy journey is unique and we will individualise your treatments to assist you in reaching your full health potential during pregnancy, making this a more enjoyable time of your life.

Acupuncture may be able to assist pregnant women with numerous conditions related to your pregnancy. Many women experience symptoms such as nausea and vomiting, fatigue, constipation, pregnancy related heartburn/reflux, pregnancy related musculoskeletal pains and cramps, dizziness, oedema, pain related to carpal tunnel syndrome, just to name a few.

At AcuHealth we also assist in the PREPARATION FOR LABOUR, as many women would prefer to minimise medical intervention in the induction of labour. Although there is no substantial evidence to support the use of acupuncture in the induction of labour, our pregnant clients often turn towards natural treatments in preparing their body for the birth of their child. For these reasons, our practitioners often see women from as early as 32 weeks onwards to provide support and assist with the final stages of pregnancy.

Post-natal care

The arrival of your baby is an exciting and fulfilling part of life. It can also be quite a daunting time for new mother. We understand that this postpartum period can be a very vulnerable time and we aim to support you through the many changes that occur within your body. The first three months can be particularly tough with many women experiencing common problems after giving birth.

Some of the most commonly discussed issues arise from breastfeeding with low milk supply being particularly stressful for new mums. When the baby finally arrives and motherhood thrust upon us, it can often be an overwhelming experience. At AcuHealth, we understand that difficulties in breastfeeding can be incredibly disheartening and we work with you in a supportive environment to help overcome these problems.

Breastfeeding

Insufficient lactation can be a very stressful, frustrating and upsetting time, especially for new mothers. Chinese medicine views that lack of milk supply can be due to many factors including nutrition, inadequate rest and emotions.

Engorged Breasts can often occur a couple of days after delivery, when the milk changes from colostrum to breast milk. Due to the increased blood supply to the breasts and the start of the flow of breast milk, the breasts can become engorged, hard, and painful.

Mastitis can result from either a blocked milk duct within the breast or from bacteria that enters the breast, often through a cracked nipple. It is important that patients suffering from mastitis are also under the care of a doctor or midwife, as antibiotics are generally needed.

Trying to navigate the demands of a newborn, and the massive changes your body is going through from being pregnant to postpartum can leave you feeling overwhelmed, exhausted and can lead to other common complaints. Through treatment and support, we can assist you through times of self-doubt as a new mother.
